The New Black Wall Street Market in Stonecrest, Georgia, a 125,000-square-foot indoor marketplace of Black-owned shops, artists, and restaurants, closed at the end of April.

The market opened with real fanfare and real ambition: a permanent roof over dozens of small vendors, in a majority-Black city that wanted a landmark. Large-format retail is unforgiving, and keeping a building that size full of foot traffic proved harder than filling it with vendors.

This publication keeps closures on the record alongside openings, because the honest ledger is the useful one. The vendors who built inside those walls are still building. The next roof matters more than the last one.

A record that only keeps the wins is not a record. It is a highlight reel.
